Richard Louis Elliott received a bachelor of music degree from the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, and received his master's and doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He currently serves as the Principal Tabernacle Organist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Prior to this appointment, Elliott was an assistant professor of music at Brigham Young University.

He sits on the advisory boards for the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ and the Eccles Organ Festival at Salt Lake City’s Cathedral of the Madeleine. He performed with members of the BYU School of Music faculty to celebrate KBYU-FM's 50th anniversary.
