Morris M. Clinger graduated from Brigham Young University in 1932 with a Bachelor's Degree in Speech and Drama, and in 1946 with a Master's Degree. He later returned to BYU as an assistant professor of theatre and speech education. He served as the chair of the Speech Department from 1961-1968.

He served as the Vice President of the Utah Teachers of Speech Association in 1936, and the President in 1937.
