Lara Beene, 2008

Lara Alred Beene graduated from Brigham Young University in 1997 with a BA in Theatre Arts and in 2004 with a MFA in Theatre Design and Technology.

Beene has taught full-time at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is currently a part-time lecturer in theatre departments at Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, and Utah Valley University. She teaches stage makeup and costume design and construction courses as well as the occasional theatre history course.

In addition to teaching, Beene likes to freelance design and has worked with theatres across the United States. In 2013, she was a costume designer and creator for BYU's production of Swan Lake.

In 2014, Beene received the School of the Arts Faculty Excellence Award for adjunct faculty at Utah Valley University. The same year, she was the speaker at the BYU Museum of Art's Special Guest Lecture. She presented examples of her own work and those found in the MOA Exhibit Cut! Costume and the Cinema to shed light on the process of costume design. She was the costume designer for the 2015 U.S. stage premiere of "The Count of Monte Cristo" at BYU.
