Juan Hector Pereira graduated from Brigham Young University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in vocal performance.

In 2005, he was awarded an Oscarson Discovery Grant which enabled him to participate in the La Musica Lirica 6th International Music Festival in Nova Feltria, Italy. The following year, Pereira toured Chile and Peru with fellow student Emily Duke and Professor J. Arden Hopkin on a vocal performance tour. The trio performed at firesides and civic events, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the LDS Church in Chile.

In May 2009, Pereira received his Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. He moved back to Salt Lake City that summer and has been working as a Junior High School choir teacher in Draper, Utah. In February 2010, he flew back to Michigan to audition for their doctoral program, a very competitive and coveted program. He has received a graduate student instructorship, and has been fully funded to return to Michigan and commence his doctorate studies in Musical Arts studies.
