John J. McClellan

John Jasper McClellan was born 20 April 1874 in Payson, Utah. From an early age, McClellan had a profound interest in and gift for music. He worked with local teachers until age 17, when he went east to study under Albert W. Platte and others. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a music degree in 1896. In July of that year, he married Mary Estelle Douglas in the Manti Temple.

McClellan taught at various schools in Utah, including BYU. He was also organist for the Salt Lake Tabernacle for 25 years. McClellan passed away 2 August 1925, at the height of his career.
