Colten G. Ashley graduated from Brigham Young University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in media arts studies. In 2013 he was presented with the first-place Vera Hinckley Mayhew Screen and Play Writing Award for his work, On a High Arid Plain.
In 2014, Ashley won the Exceptional Citizen in Media Arts Fiction award from the Department of Theatre and Media Arts. The same year, Ashley directed On a High Arid Plain, which was selected to be one of the year's two capstone projects. He also served as a member of the Grip/Electric team for BYU's full-length film production of Beyond.
