Benjamin Y. Chan graduated from Brigham Young University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in music performance. While at BYU, he performed with the Chamber Orchestra and the BYU Philharmonic.

In 2004, Benjamin was also selected to play the violin as part of the Watkins Honor Quartet, part of the George and Geraldine Swensen Watkins Endowment for Excellence in the Arts.

Chan won second place in the nation in the 2005-2006 Music Teacher's National Association String Division.

In 2009, Chan entered a contest sponsored by YouTube, an online video sharing website, and competed against more than 3,000 musicians for a spot in their Concert Symphony.

He was selected to perform as part of the YouTube Concert Symphony, the world's first online-auditioned orchestra, at New York's Carnegie Hall in April 2009.
