April N. Groth graduated from Brigham Young University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in media arts studies.

In 2014, Groth was chosen to produce one of the year's two capstone projects, On a High Arid Plain, which was written by fellow student Colten Ashley. She also served as the Locations Manager for BYU's full-length film production of Beyond. The following year, she received a Media Arts Fiction Award from BYU's Department of Theatre and Media Arts. Also in 2015, Groth produced and wrote for Mother of the Year, which won a special recognition for Best Cast Ensemble at the BYU Final Cut Film Festival.
