Andrew Joy studied Acting at Brigham Young University.

In 2010 Joy starred as Link Larkin in the SCERA Showhouse's production of Hairspray in Orem, Utah.

Two years later Joy was the first student to helm a stage show as its sole producer since the founding of the university’s theatre department. Andrew produced Merrily We Roll Along, a Broadway treasure and Joy's favorite musical. However, the play has some script that is inappropriate for younger viewers so Andrew reviewed the script and suggested minor changes. Surprisingly, he was given permission to make the revisions. Joy was also lucky to attract the interest of Scott Eckern, an adjunct professor at BYU, who directed the show.

In April of 2013 Joy was selected as a finalist for the Outstanding Theatre Award. He was also presented with the Outstanding Theatre Student Employee Award at a BYU theatre student awards evening. Also in 2013 Joy and his partner DeLaney Westfall were selected as semi-finalists for the 2013 Irene Ryan award.

Joy was included on the winter 2011 Dean's List.
