Amy Elizabeth Castro graduated from Brigham Young University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in theatre arts studies.

In the spring of 2013, Castro starred as Aunt Beast and as a part of the ensemble in BYU's production of A Wrinkle in Time. She also served on the design and technical crew for BYU's Microburst Theatre Festival. In 2014, Castro competed in the Irene Ryan competition at the Region VIII Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). The same year, she served as the assistant director for BYU's production of A Man for All Seasons.

In February of 2015, she was awarded first place in the directing competition at the 2015 KCACTF. The same year, she received an Outstanding Student Award and an Outstanding Directing Student Award from BYU's Theatre and Media Arts Department. This same year, Amy was awarded an Oscarson Discovery Grant to fund her opportunity to travel to New York to assist the stage manager, Colyn Fiendel, with the BYU faculty/student production Single Wide, which was chosen to be performed at the New York Musical Theatre Festival.
