Walter Birkedahl

Walter B. Birkedahl was a string bass teacher in the School of Music at BYU, as well as manager of administrative support.

Birkedahl has been active as a recording and performing bassist in Utah and was principal bass of several Washington, D.C. chamber orchestras as well as ballets, operas, oratorios and concert performances at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, Carnegie Hall, and the White House.

His professional recordings with various ensembles include major motion pictures, television and major record labels. His major teachers were Stuart Sankey for undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Austin and Homer Mensch for master's work at the Catholic University of America. Birkedahl also holds an MBA from George Mason University.
