While he was at BYU he also participated in Vocal Point, the campus' popular and highly-competitive male a cappella group.

Innes was a semi-finalist in the 2009 Mormon Showcase, sponsored through Mormon Times. Just a year later (2010) he released his EP album. In 2012 Innes opened the third season of the Rooftop Concert Series. That year he also submitted an audition to perform at the Stadium of Fire in Provo for the Fourth of July celebration. Out of the 3000+ auditions, Ryan was one of the final two contestants, giving him a chance to perform with American legends, the Beach Boys. As a performer he has gained popularity throughout Utah and is looking to finish another album before he tours elsewhere. In 2013 he competed on NBC's popular show, The Voice. For his audition, he sang John Mayer's Gravity and had to choose between all four judges before selecting to work with Usher. His success continued at the "Battle Round" of the show, where he beat out Orlando Dixon in order to progress in the competition. Ryan Innes participated in a national tour in 2013 which also included "The Voice" finalist Amy Whitcomb.

Innes continues to tour and perform. Innes returned to Utah to perform in the Utah Arts Festival in the summer of 2013. The same year, he was featured in the BYU Alumni Magazine for his musical accomplishments.
