Catherine "Katie" O'Brian Golding Mecham graduated from Brigham Young University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in music education with a minor in theatre arts studies. She was included on the and Spring 2013 Dean's Lists.
In 2012, she was granted an ORCA grant to research the Hungarian music education system. She traveled to Hungary with Professor Jerry Jaccard and fellow ORCA grantees, Karissa Baker, Bethany Richards, and Christy Ripa. The five of them toured schools and conservatories in Budapest, Debrecen, Kecskemet, and Nyiregyhaza.
In 2014, Mecham received an Oscarson Discovery Grant to fund her trip to Atlanta, GA, to present at the Organization of American Kodaly Educators (OAKE) 2014 National Conference. For her presentation, she and the other BYU students reported on their trip to Hungary.
