The Contemporary Dance Theatre (CDT), formerly known as The Dancers' Company, was formed in 1975 and portrays dance from comedic to lyrical to jazz. The artistic director of the group is Nathan Balser.
The Contemporary Dance Theatre has performed concerts in the United States and Puerto Rico, and internationally in India, Korea, Philippines, South America, South Africa, Turkey, Australia, Israel, and China, where BYU was the first international university to have ever been invited to perform at Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts' educational arts festival. Twice they were invited to perform at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Some of their concerts at BYU have included, World of Dance, the Homecoming Spectacular, and Winterfest 2012. The company has performed works by master choreographers including, Lar Lubovitch, Alwin Nikolais, Doris Humphrey, Sara and Jerry Pearson, Ihsan Rustem, and Loni Landon.
The CDT was a winner in the American College Dance Festival. In 2015, the CDT won the New Prague Dance Festival Grand Prix Championship Trophy during their European tour.
